ALE ADDAMS
"From a young age, my love for art and creativity was evident. At just four years old, I found joy in drawing distinct shapes, and this passion only grew as I matured. Around the age of five or six, I began experimenting with materials like paper and cardboard, constructing elaborate houses for my action figures. This early exploration sparked my curiosity, leading me to tackle more complex projects with MDF, chipboard, and wood, involving intricate screws and nails. I also uncovered a hidden talent for working with clay, adding another dimension to my artistic endeavours.
Despite this artistic inclination, societal pressures led me to pursue a career as a surveyor after secondary school. However, I found little joy in this field. After completing my surveyor studies, I embarked on various ventures in search of my true calling. It was during this time that I stumbled upon Restoration and Conservation of Listed Buildings, reigniting my passion for art. Here, all my skills, craftsmanship, perspective studies, and attention to detail found their rightful place.
As I immersed myself in restoration, my passion for art was rekindled. I mastered the craft quickly, realising it was not just a profession but an integral part of who I was. Then, in 2011, an unexpected gift from my best friend, a Barbie doll named Kiaretta, entered the picture. Unintentionally, Kiaretta became the catalyst that transformed my artistic journey.
Capturing her whimsical adventures with my first iPhone 4s unlocked a captivating fusion of creativity and storytelling. Through Kiaretta's lens, my personality and skills naturally blended. Today, Kiaretta represents a culmination of a lifetime of passion and talent. Through her adventures, I've discovered a profound sense of fulfilment that comes from embracing my true calling." — Ale Addams
"Kiaretta Glam: Fake Subject, Real Life"
This artistic endeavour explores a prevalent social phenomenon in our interconnected world. As social media continues to weave into our lives, the pursuit of crafting an idealised self through selfies and curated images is relentless.
The series responds to this culture of virtual perfection. Rather than retreating to private spaces, Addams takes an unconventional subject, a Barbie doll, into the vibrant world, allowing her to experience life first-hand through his iPhone's lens. This "fake subject, real life" concept highlights the importance of authenticity and genuine connections in an increasingly virtual world as well as provoking contemplation on the boundary between "fake" and "real”.
In essence, the series explores perception, authenticity, and human connection. By sharing Kiaretta's journey, Addams urges the audience to break free from virtual confines, embrace tangible experiences, and treasure unfiltered moments. Through the series, he aims to inspire a re-evaluation of a fulfilling life's meaning.
