Elena Lojevsky’s most recent series of paintings, 2020, which have been exhibited exclusively at Gallery Different is a very personal response to a life-changing moment in 2020; the sudden death of her husband, Igor, from Coronavirus at the start of the pandemic. These works serve as both a private and public memorial to what Lojevsky calls ‘a cursed year’ when the physical creation of art became a necessary means of expressing and processing the complex emotional turmoil that words simply could not. In this work, Lojevsky lays bare the psychological trauma of loss and invites the viewer to act as witness to her emotional journey through the perspective of their own life experiences.
When Elena began her artistic journey – a third career for her – she was working initially in 3D, welding steel sculpture. Her journey through a variety of media led her to her current work which has the sensitivity of oils with the texture provided by the use of wax. Her sensibility for three dimensional work is evident in the textures and layers that appear in her work, allowing the underlying colours to subtly emerge.
Elena Lojevsky is a London based artist who works in a variety of media to create abstract images that speak to shared human emotions.
