Emma Hopkins
My work explores what it means to be human: as an individual and as a species. I dissect our multifaceted natures, striving for both balance and truth.
Originally trained in prosthetics, I was taught about the anatomy of the body, with particular focus on our skin. It was here that I began developing ways to sculpt flesh with paint.
Using both myself and the people I know as subjects for my paintings, I combine realism and abstraction to express how our thoughts, emotions and bodies connect and communicate with each other and the world around us.
