Originally from Geneva, Gaëlle has been living in London for 11 years working in the communication and advertising industry. A self-taught artist, drawing and sketching have been present in her life from a very young age, but the journey with painting began when living in California in 2000.
Gaëlle’s inspiration and focus is on the human form, portraying iconic parts of the female body that evoke sensuality and that have been used heavily as erotic symbols in pop culture for decades – from art, to fashion, where “sex sells”. Lips in particular have become her signature subject.
Greatly inspired by Pop Art, colour and texture is central to Gaëlle’s work and her paintings are boldly executed with a high level of detail, seeking to create dramatic impressions through strong contrast and vibrant colours. Perhaps most identifiable in her work is her passion for finding harmony in the visual relationship between the sensuality of form and the beauty of colour, where photorealism and abstraction of the subject meet.
