Following the sell out success of Tara Winona’s first major London Solo Show in 2018, plans were put in place for a 2021 solo exhibition. Like plans everywhere, these were disrupted and overset by the pandemic, and Tara, who was in Australia in March 2020, was not able to return to the UK for two years.
This current exhibition is a culmination of four years of work. The threads of her 2018 show are here – her love affair with wildlife, her concern for the disappearing treasures of our natural world, and a celebration of the connections. There is also a ‘newness’ both in subject matter and technique, introducing portraiture, incandescent glow paintings, and an exciting crossover with her award winning work with lasers and light.
‘Tara’s commitment to and enthusiasm for her subject is inspiring and infectious. Every painting exudes her emotional relationship both to her subject and to her craft, and her personality and joy is in every brush stroke - no wonder her collectors become her friends.’ Karina Phillips, Director
‘These works are a series of love letters to life, forming a visual journal over several years. They comforted me through the loss of loved ones and have danced onto my canvas during moments of joy. During the Great Pause and months of solitude in Australia, my over-active imagination required me to go deep within, inspiring a theme of inner light in many of the works; acts of kindness across the globe moved me, influencing my Trees of Life; and as we emerged into the newness of what before had been the ordinary, I felt a profound sense of joy and gratitude, re-awakening to all that is precious. ‘Hope’ felt the best way to express this.’ Tara Winona
